| Most (but not all) new and late model vehicles have factory immobilizer (anti-theft) systems to prevent a vehicle being started without the specific owner's key in the ignition. These factory anti-theft systems help prevent your vehicle from being stolen. However, these systems also prevent your vehicle from being remote started unless you install an Immobilizer Bypass / Override Module. (The alternative would be to leave the key in the ignition, which could easily result in vehicle theft.) Here's how to determine if you need an Immobilizer Bypass for your vehicle. DEI Door Lock & Databus Interface Modules
In recent years, some vehicle manufacturers, primarily General Motors, have been using Data Bus Systems for controlling the power door locks, the factory alarm system and other accessories, rather than the previous traditional +/- wiring connections. On these vehicles, you cannot just connect the door lock / unlock outputs from aftermarket alarms / remote starters / keyless entry systems to the vehicle's +/- door lock / unlock wires under the dash, because these wires do not exist anymore. On all of these Data Bus System vehicles, you can still make these +/- wire connections, however they would have to be made inside the individual doors, requiring removing inner door panels to make wire connections, and adding relays inside these doors to control the individual door motors. Also many of the newer vehicles are being manufactured with 'single wire' multiplex resistance door locking systems, particularly Chrysler products. Interfacing with these door locking systems requires the use of relays and the specified resistors for a given Year-Make-Model vehicle, The following DEI Products simplify these interface installations. |
